Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve had an obsession with redecorating. Just ask my dad, I made him repaint my childhood bedroom a different color each year (true story). Since I work from home, the recent redecorating of my office was extra necessary. I knew I wanted a space that was functional, bright, and most importantly, filled me with endless creativity. After months of planning, tracking down the perfect pieces, and nagging my boyfriend and dad to help me, the space is finally complete (for now).
Since my apartment is a rental, I can’t really do anything too permanent to it. When I came across this removable wallpaper, I knew it would be the perfect way to add personality to the office, without damaging the walls. Peonies are my favorite flower, and clearly I love gold foil anything, so the design was a no-brainer. I decided to add it to only one wall to act as a statement. Plus, I think my boyfriend would have cried if he had to install it to all four walls.
For the desk, I knew I wanted something really simple. I had my eye on a limited edition desk from Sugar Paper, but every time I went to purchase it, it was sold out. I decided to go the DIY route, and simply spray painted the legs of a white desk to get the same effect. Of course the Sugar Paper desk ended up being restocked shortly after I purchased the desk I have now, but I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. I decided to go for a gray desk chair to add a bit of contrast to the space.
I try not to keep too much on my desk, but I do like to be surrounded by things that I use regularly, and decor that inspires me. The letter board was a recent purchase, and one I wish I made sooner. It’s fun to change the quote from time to time, and I like having words of wisdom or inspiration staring at me while I work. It’s a nice reminder for when I feel down, or the day gets a bit overwhelming.
The bookcase is actually the first item I purchased for the space. Ever since I saw it on the PB Teen website, I knew I needed it, and I thought the office would be the perfect room for it. The pinboard is also from PB Teen. Like I said, I love being surrounded by pieces that help me feel creative, and this pinboard is my real-life version of Pinterest. I definitely want to pin more things to it as I settle in the space.
Lighting is also very important when it comes to my working environment. Sometimes the overhead light can be a bit too harsh, so I opted for this lamp from Lamps Plus. I love that it’s clear. I think it adds a really fun element to my desk.
I hope you like the space! How do you find inspiration in your workspace?
