Every winter I struggle to find a skincare and make-up routine that works. Normally, my skin is quite oily and I’m pretty great at managing it, but during the winter months, my skin becomes dry and dull, and nothing ever seems to help. And once my skin is dry, applying make-up becomes a nightmare. Luckily, things are different this year, thanks to Neutrogena Hydro Boost. As most beauty lovers know, in order to achieve a great make-up application, you have to begin with a great base. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost line has kept my skin feeling hydrated, looking healthy, and helps me achieve a glowing make-up look, even during a New York City winter.
The not-so-secret ingredient in the Neutrogena Hydro Boost line that makes it so incredible is Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid moisturizes and plumps the skin, keeping you hydrated all day long. Hyaluronic Acid can actually naturally be found in the skin, and acts as a sponge for dry skin cells. It has the ability to absorb up to 1,000 times its weight in water! In simple terms, it helps your skin look plump, hydrated, and amazing.
Now I’m going to take you through my everyday winter foundation routine, and prove that you can have glowing, beautiful skin, even in the middle of winter.
After washing my face, I start by applying moisturizer. Moisturizer is key before any make-up application. Even if you think your skin is oily and doesn’t need it, it does. The Hydro Boost Water Gel is a great option because it is highly moisturizing, yet feels lightweight on the skin. It instantly absorbs into the skin and acts as the perfect base for foundation.
Next, it’s time to apply foundation! The Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint has been my go-to lately. It feels like you’re not wearing make-up, yet it provides great coverage. I’ve been seeing a dermatologist lately so I’m trying to use make-up products that are better for my skin, so I love that the Hydrating Tint is oil-free and non-comedogenic.
After I apply foundation, it’s time to conceal. I thought the dark circles under my eyes were due to lack of sleep, but even after changing my sleeping habits, it seems they’re here to stay. I find that most concealers are too heavy for me and tend to cake up, but the Hydro Boost Hydrating Concealer has been perfect. It’s non-greasy, and glides onto the skin. The coverage is great, but it looks natural, which I love.
Now that my foundation and concealer are applied, I opt for bronzer. In the past, I would typically reach for a pressed powder before bronzing, but I find that I don’t need to set this particular foundation. Plus, this look is meant to look very hydrating and dewy, so using a pressed powder might make the look appear dull, which we are trying to avoid! Using a sculpting brush, I lightly apply bronzer beneath my cheekbones to add a bit of definition to my face. I don’t apply too much, since we’re going for a more natural feel!
For added glow, I sweep highlighter on my cheekbones.
I don’t know about you, but keeping my lips moisturized is SO important during the winter months. I feel like as soon as the temperature drops, my lips go into shock and dry up instantly. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Treatment has been an absolute lifesaver. It intensely conditions the lips, and locks in hydration. I always apply it before applying any sort of lip gloss or lipstick, but I also lather it on before bed. I wake up every morning with soft, plump lips, even when the temperature drops especially low overnight.
I like to let the lip treatment really absorb into my lips before applying any sort of color, so next I groom my brows. I typically just brush them and use a brow pencil to fill in any sparse areas.
For this dewy make-up look, it’s all about the skin and face, so I like to keep the eyes pretty natural. I apply a few coats of mascara, and leave it at that.
To complete the look, I add a few swipes of the Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Shine. These glosses are so hydrating! I usually avoid gloss because it tends to settle into fine lines, but the Lip Shine doesn’t at all. They’re moisturizing, add the perfect touch of color, and make your lips appear smooth and full. My personal favorite shades are Berry Brown and Soft Blush.
And that’s it! Like I said, the focus of this make-up look is definitely the skin, so I concentrated heavily on foundation and concealer. My skin has never looked this great, or felt this hydrated during the winter months, and I know I have the Neutrogena Hydro Boost line to thank for that.
