I have always been someone who appreciates greeting cards. Some people see greeting cards as something you give along with a gift, but to me, they’re the real gift. It’s a special way to show someone how much you love and appreciate them. It says the things that a gift cannot. It brings me so much joy to watch someone I love read a card that I have given them. I could spend hours in the greeting card aisles of Target searching to find the one that connects most with the person I’m shopping for. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I made it my mission this year to find the perfect card for my mom, and create a handmade gift that she’ll love.
This year for Mother’s Day, I knew right away that I wanted to create something memorable for my mom. She’s very sentimental, and I knew she would appreciate a heartfelt gift. I had the idea to create a scrapbook filled with photos and mementos we’ve collected over the years. Scrapbooking and creating photo albums is something we used to do together regularly, but since everyone uses their phones now, we hardly have any physical cards or albums. Creating a scrapbook for her would not only serve as a special Mother’s Day gift, but it would revisit a tradition we both loved so much. As I was shopping for supplies and a greeting card, I found this beautiful card covered with flowers and I was instantly inspired to create a scrapbook that complemented it.
To create the floral scrapbook, all you need is a plain photo album, faux flowers, fabric glue, and letter stickers. You can add any additional decorations, but considering my mom’s love for flowers, I knew the flowers alone would be perfect. I found all of her favorite flowers, arranged them on the scrapbook, and adhered them with fabric glue. To complete the cover, I added rose gold letter stickers. I could have purchased a pre-designed scrapbook, but I think the DIY aspect is what makes the gift so personal and special. For the interior, I decided to make all of the photos black and white. I thought it would be a fun retro touch. Scrapbooks are great because you can get as creative as you want, or keep them simple. It’s completely up to you! Although, it’s kind of hard to resist overdecorating. I decided not to fill the entire scrapbook, because I wanted to leave space for memories we’re still creating.
I can’t wait to give my mom her gift on Mother’s Day, and watch her read the greeting card I chose. I know it’s cliche, but there really isn’t a better feeling than giving to someone you love. Wishing all the moms out there a very Happy Mother’s Day!
