We held our engagement party at il Fornetto restaurant in Brooklyn. It has been one of my favorite restaurants for years, and even though we looked at other venues, I think we all knew in the back of our minds that il Fornetto would be perfect for the occasion. They have a great event space overlooking the water and the food is unreal. The event manager literally made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the evening, and it did.
I didn’t really have a set theme for our engagement party, but I knew I wanted it to have elements of marble, gold foil, and greenery, and I knew I wanted to have a dessert table. My favorite part of the evening, and definitely the “showstopper” when people walked in, had to be the donut wall. A few months ago I had seen a donut wall on Pinterest, and instantly wanted one for the party. Turns out they’re pretty impossible to find. After countless unanswered e-mails and a few over-the-top quotes, I turned to my dad, who then turned to our new neighbor. Together they were able to create the donut wall of my Pinterest dreams.
As I said earlier, we struck gold in the vendor department. I had very clear idea of what I wanted, so I turned to good ol’ Google to track down vendors who could make my visions a reality. I have to be completely honest and say that I hired all of our vendors online after reading their reviews, and every single one exceeded my expectations. Each one of our vendors was unique, professional, and helpful.
Our cake was designed by Laura of Pip n Bits and it was seriously out of this world. Not only did she create the cake of my dreams aesthetically, but it was equally as delicious. She promised the chocolate cake would be the best we ever had, and I kid you not, dozens of our guests said it was.
For our dessert table, we used a variety of different bakers and vendors. The gold foil donuts, macarons, chocolate covered oreos, and cake pops were from The New York Cake Poppery. People were literally in awe of the gold foil desserts and they tasted as good as they looked. The custom cookies and gemstone chocolates were from Sugar Crush Sweets. They were delivered all the way from California and everything arrived perfectly. I felt like the custom cookies gave the table a more personalized feel. The other donuts were from a local donut shop that literally makes the most delicious apple pie donuts. If you’re ever in Brooklyn, seriously you need to go to the Donut Shoppe on Avenue U. It’s a hidden gem. The beautiful donut towers were actually made by my Grandma using Krispy Kreme donut holes. I’m thinking about creating a DIY with her if anyone is interested in learning how to create them.
The marble place cards were designed by Julie of Song & Pen. They were such a hit at the party, and I love how they added something to the table, as well as served as a favor for guests to take home.
